The Day of Unification is the Ukrainian national holiday, celebrated annually on January 22. The event of unification of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian People's Republic took place on this day in 1919.
In 2011, the President of Ukraine signed a decree according to which the Day of Unification became an official holiday.
Every year on January 22 the streets of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities are decorated with national symbols and flags. People in the streets traditionally form so-called human chains that serve a symbol of unification of Ukrainian lands.
